As I write this article, another of our CNC Orientation classes is wrapping up. We love introducing people to this powerful tool. However, many people don’t know what types of CNC wood projects they can do on this machine. And you may not realize that we can do your CNC project for you. Here are just a few examples of CNC wood projects that we, or our customers, have done.
You don’t need to know how to use the CNC, we can do your project for you. For example, send us an image or the text (names, dates, phrase, etc.) and we can import typical file formats. We have engraved family names, military emblems or service shields, sports team logos, company logos, and even a replica of a stained-glass window design. The sky is the limit!
Shaped Serving Trays
No one said a serving tray has to be a rectangle shape. Serving trays can be in any design, the outline of your favorite animal, or beautiful shapes. So let your imagination be your guide!
This is one of the bigger projects done on our CNC. Our member, Joel, makes theme beds for children’s rooms. His process includes making the cuts, dry-fitting all the components, and disassembling to ship around the country for reassembly. He previously made all the cuts using traditional methods. This was repetitive and time-consuming. Now his designs are saved in the software for the CNC, and the machine does all the cuts. And because the machine is so precise, there is less material waste and Joel has a streamlined, consistent product.
Kerwin wanted a solution for storing bikes in his garage. And he wanted something that would mount to the wall where the mounting mechanism itself would lift up and pull the bike toward the wall, versus stick out at a 90-degree angle. As a result, the CNC was a perfect option to ensure the precise geometry necessary for this helpful project.
A Topographical Map
We were asked to create a topographical model for an architect who is designing a multi-million dollar home in Aspen. We were able to import the CAD file and create an exact representation of the property, including changes in elevation and outlining the locations of the home, guest quarters, and a 15×15 hot tub. Fancy!
For the ultimate in personalization, using the CNC gives you the ability to personalize just about anything you’re making. Avid sports fan in your life? Engrave your gift with their favorite team logo. They adore elephants? Make that the shape of your gift. Newlyweds, new babies, or someone is celebrating a milestone? So adding monograms, family names, or dates is a great way to make any gift unique.
