Over a decade ago, a 12-year old Taylor knew exactly what she wanted to do for Father’s Day. There was a family picture of her and her Dad on a tandem bike ride, and even though there was a running joke that she never pedaled, she knew her Dad loved that picture. So in her Junior High art class, she set out to make a wire art replica of the tandem bike event. She had the best intentions but now laughs at the end-result. Today, Taylor is one of the members at My Own 2 Hands. She has had plenty of time to hone her skill as a furniture maker, and she has a running list of things her parents want her to build. Even with all her talent and the quality of her work now, her Dad still has that tandem bike of wire art sitting on his desk.
Want that kind of, “aww, how sweet” factor for your Dad on Father’s Day? There are a few ways a makerspace, like My Own 2 Hands, can help.

Already have something specific in mind that you want to make for Dad? Come get started on that project! My Own 2 Hands has onsite mentors to help as much or as little as you need with everything from design and cut, to construction and finish.
More than any object you can give your Dad, the thing he wants most is to spend time with you. If you’re looking for a unique way to hang out, plan to attend one or some classes at My Own 2 Hands. Whether you build something in a project class or opt for a skill-based class, the memories you build with your Dad will last a lifetime!
After spending time with you, what your Dad really wants is time to tinker. He may or may not have his own tools. He may or may not have room in the garage or basement. He may or may not be the most handy guy. A makerspace like My Own 2 Hands can be the perfect solution for Dad (and your Mom will thank you too!). Gifting your Dad a membership will give him the greatest degree of flexibility and is the most economical way for him to tinker at his own pace on his own projects. Gift cards are also a great option.
Here’s to all the kids who made a wire art tandem bike, lopsided ceramic mug, or wooden bird house; and to the Dads who cherish their kids!
